We will start at Caulders Garden Centre near Newton Mearns and head into north Ayrshire via Mauchline and Cumnock. We will then travel via Dalmellington and Straiton over the South Ayrshire hills to arrive at Culzean Castle KA19 8LE on the Ayrshire coast.
We will enjoy a buffet lunch at Culzean in the Stone Barn at the Home Farm. I have arranged special parking in front of the Stone Barn. After lunch, there will be an opportunity to tour the Castle, and the grounds and gardens, weather permitting!
The Castle and grounds are owned by the National Trust for Scotland, being gifted to the Trust in 1945. Originally owned by the Kennedy family who brought in Robert Adam to help develop the castle, with that family of architects influencing many of the garden buildings and features. There are stunning views to Ailsa Craig, the Holy Isle, Arran and the Mull of Kintyre.
The buffet lunch, consisting
of soup/sandwich/salad/meats, will be £10.95 per person payable on the day, with entry to the site being free for NTS members. I have negotiated an entry fee of £5 for non-Trust members. There will be a further charge of £5 for entry into the Castle for non-Trust members. In order to gain free entry, NTS members must bring their cards.
In the afternoon we will travel back through Ayrshire to finish again at Caulders. For those of you who wish to finish there, you should arrive by around 4.30pm, since the Centre closes at 5pm, although we will be allowed to remain until c5.30pm.
It may be that if the weather is good, you will wish to stay longer at the Castle and take in more of the beautiful site. There will be an option to do that and take a faster route back to Caulders using the main A77 and M77. The slightly longer route back will take in some nice scenery on the way.
