It is good to have a few days away up in the Highlands, the tribute weekend is always popular one night of catching up after the winter “MG hibernation” and one evening of “cultured music”. Though a few did bring MGs mostly of this century, I think only one from the last century, an MG C, owned by Richard and Ann Dennis. This was our fourth Tribute Weekend, previous ones were Rod Stuart, and two Elvis ones.
The main attraction was on the Saturday night and a very good tribute act it was too. Billy West did a fantastic job of bringing back the memories of a fantastic performer. It inspired a number of people to get up and dance, the old hands were up, Iain and Margaret Mac and Mary Stewart got a chance to have wee dance or two with a complete stranger from one of the other parties.
On the Saturday it was in most cases a trip to, yes you guest it, the House of Bruer for some retail therapy, we did buy some things for Penny’s nephew’s birthday, a book on Cricket and some of Ken Stahly’s Haggis in a tin. It was a case of what do you buy a man that has everything, hope he likes them both!
The hotel did us proud with both evening meals, there was a wide choice, the beef looked the best, sadly I did not have it though, maybe next time.
The word is that there will not be a tribute night at the Scotlands Hotel next year as they are in the throws of a refurbishment, but I am sure that an alternative can be found.
Many thanks to Nancy and Barry Crichton for arranging this weekend, it was great fun.
