The Caledonian Centre has supported the Bo’ness Revival ever since it’s inception in 20007. Then there were just a few car clubs either side of the road leading to Kinneil House and now it has grown to having over 450 classic cars attending along with over 30 clubs represented. As the number of clubs grew the organisers were keen to improve the standard of club layouts and for a number of years the Caledonian Centre were regular winners of the Best Car Club Stand award, initially with a 1966 Morrison’s of Stirling showroom and with various other themes in succeeding years. We even had a jazz band one year! However the required standard is always increasing and in the last two or three years the Jaguar Drivers Club have raised the bar substantially!
This year our general show theme has been V8 Anniversaries with the V8GT 45 years old, the RV8 25 years old and the ZT260 15 years old. And while we had good displays at Thirlestane (where we won) and at Glamis we tried even harder at Bo’ness. With 40 cars expected almost half were V8s in various guises including the GT of Victor Smith past chairman of the V8 Register.
But it’s the detail that counts so a garden tractor was borrowed from David Reid and the grass on our pitch was trimmed on the Thursday evening before the event. Friday saw Committee members and Victor raking the cuttings and setting up the stand prior to the Classic Day On Sunday. Flowers were borrowed from many sources and once the cars arrived and were set in place on Sunday morning the stand looked perhaps the best one this year. The organisers certainly thought so and awarded us ‘Best Car Club Stand ‘ for 2018.
The Car BBQ did well too and our many members thoroughly enjoyed the event. If you haven’t been then come next year!
