….Following the popularity of the 2017 Isle of Arran Tour, it has been decided to hold the event again in 2018. Indeed, many of the members who came in 2017, have asked to book again for 2018 !
….The event will start at the Red Squirrel at Stevenston, Ayrshire, on Saturday 15th September 2018. As many entrants found it convenient to stay on the night before the start of the event, We have made arrangements with the Red Squirrel Lodge for those who wish to stay on the night of Friday the 14th September. At present, the cost of 1 night’s accommodation is £60 per room, but the hotel emphasise that the rate may increase so it is important to book as soon as your entry has been accepted. You will then be able to book via their website – RedSquirrel.Stevenston@marstons.co.uk.
….Unfortunately, this year’s rate does not include breakfast, but the good news is that you can enjoy a regular cooked breakfast for only £5.95 or a big breakfast for £7.50.
Alternatively, bacon rolls with tea/coffee will be available for those not staying for £5 per head.
From the start at the Red Squirrel, it is a short drive to the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick. The crossing takes about 55 minutes.
On arrival on Arran, we will drive to the Arran Heritage Museum. They made us extremely welcome on our 2017 visit and are delighted that we are returning. As before, we will display our cars on the lawn and visit the museum. Lunch will also be available in their tearoom. Our visit to the museum and the Isle of Arran will be widely publicised in the local paper, the Arran Banner, and on local posters.
….On leaving the museum, we will then go to our hotel for our week end stay – the luxurious Auchrannie Hotel. Once again, everybody seemed to love the hotel in 2017. A 2 course dinner with a glass of wine will be served in the Glencloy Suite on both Saturday and Sunday evenings.
….Arran is a very relaxed location, offering stunning sea views and beautiful scenery. It is renowned for being known as “ Scotland in Miniature “.
The very laid back atmosphere allows you to take things easy and enjoy. As before, we do not propose to lay down exact routes that must be followed. We will supply you with maps and brochures of the island. For those who wish, we can supply suggested routes, but as the island is only 57 miles round the perimeter, it should not be too stressful. And remember, it IS an island so you cannot get lost !
….Following our 2 night stay on Arran, we will return to the mainland for a gentle drive ending up at a lunch stop to fortify you for the drive home.
